West Texas (Part 1)
In October, we made plans to meet up with our friends from Texas in January and take the long drive to West Texas. I don't know if you know this...but Texas is pretty big. West Texas is known for being remote and in the case of our first stop, a little artsy. We spent the first night in Marfa where we celebrated our friend's birthday with drinks at Planet Marfa and cake and champagne. Our hotel, The Lincoln Marfa, had communal fireplaces so after a lovely dinner, we sat by the fire to continue the birthday festivities.
The next day we walked around the town, looking at the different art installations and doing a bit of shopping before heading to our next stop. For lunch, we ate with a view in a State Park parking lot. Just so everyone knows, you absolutely need a permit to be in State Park, even in the parking lot. We got into a spot of trouble for being there without one. Whoops! We also took some time to stop at an abandoned mine.
We continued our drive until we reached Terlingua, a small mining town. Due to it's proximity to our final destination, Big Bend National Park, it also has a good amount of tourists. Our campsite was beautiful and after a couple of beers, we made our way to Starlight Theater for dinner where we enjoyed live music while eating.
The journey was long, but we made it to Big Bend. Until next time!
