San Antonio
The next week we spent living with David, Jenny, and of course, Maverick continuing to finish up work before eventually making our way into Mexico in early November. San Antonio has been a treat to explore, and luckily, we have been able to take advantage of it. We definitely got into some kind of routine while staying there. We all woke up (some earlier than others) ate breakfast, had coffee, worked/procrastinated, and then around 4 PM would turn off the laptops and go on some adventure. It was great!
The weekend was no less eventful as we spent our Saturday driving around Fredericksburg, which is essentially Texas wine country. We went to three different wineries, but most notable was the Rhinery. As it hints at in its name, there was a frickin Rhino on premises! And it wasn't just a gimmicky place, the wine was actually delicious and...they had animal crackers. Definitely worth the drive there, which was about an hour from San Antonio. The next day we headed out for a prairie hike in Government Canyon Park and did about 5 miles. While I am an avid hiker and not afraid of some heavy elevation gain, this was more brutal in some ways because of the heat. The landscape is vastly different than what we are used to and saw some pretty cool cactus', but definitely left pretty exhausted. The week ended with lots of water and the boys setting up an outdoor viewing of the Astros game on the side of the camper. Pretty good week.
I feel like the rest of the week, while super fun for us, might be pretty boring to read about because it was mostly food and drink, so I'll be brief. One food highlight was Singhs, which was Vietnamese food (highly recommend a Bánh mì) and we also went to High Street Wine, which is in a very cute square area called the Pearl. We visited the Pearl last time we were in San Antonio and if you are going, would highly recommend. The brewery is historic, vast and has been remodeled into restaurants, shops, and a beautiful hotel. The last place I'll mention is Pinkertons, which had amazing barbeque that you order at the counter (that brisket thoooo). Only downside...no Sister Verona's hot sauce!
Until next time!
