The road south

The final weekend with family and friends was certainly cherishable. After the last of the many "midwest goodbyes" and repeat hugs, Cam and I set off for St. Louis where we were staying with friends Amanda and Grant, a.k.a. host and hostess extraordinaire. They live in "The Hill" neighborhood of St. Louis, which is known for their large Italian population and thus, wonderful Italian food. The neighborhood had a specific charm with the Italian flag aesthetic and racing golf carts people seemed to drive everywhere...in a city. I still can't get over it 😂 Needless to say, many Italian subs were had.

Over the next couple days we slowly made our way to Texas, staying in hotels in Muskegon, Dallas and with a good friend in Austin so we could make it to the final destination of San Antonio. Cam went to school at UT and has some truly wonderful people here. We spent the first weekend camping with friends at Potters Creek Park where we got to fully experience our set up for the first time together, but also went boating, visited a brewery (Real Brewery) and hung with the cutest pup. I mean...take a look at this handsome fellow, any thoughts on breed/mix?

Moral of the story with the camper, we must be cleaner. Even one small dirty dish in this thing feels like a blimp in my psyche (I don't mean to keep talking about dishes, but that's the truth of small living)! That being said, cleaning and household stuff will be easier when we are on our own and the FOMO ceases to justify the time spent on cleaning out the coffee pot. Or maybe I need to chill, probably a bit of both.

While we are still adjusting to smaller living, it is amazing how quickly we can adjust to our environment in other ways in a matter of days. Cam started off talking in a southern accent ironically, but has slowly, day by day, developed a more distinct twang to his voice. Wonder if that will stick 🤣 After the winters of Chicago and mirthfully mocking those who require a parka below sixty degrees, I have become "one of those". Where my jacket at?!

But to wrap it up, it was an excellent weekend with old and new friends. It was the first time we truly felt able to relax and enjoy our trip, even if we are still working. We have wonderful hosts and looking forward to the rest of our time in Texas. Until next time!
